A Joke Every Day - 260 - Wax Fruit
BackI like this joke conceptually. Structurally I kind of want to play with it some more, as I'm not sure it has reached it's maximum flavor potential. I like jokes that play with the distinction between real and fake and authenticity and representation, because those are very basic components of our understanding of the world, so just like how an opposite bears a more strong logical connection to something than just a variation, a real/fake question is a very... salient way of identifying something. Mitch Hedberg obviously did some stuff in this area ("I forgot to pretend to water my fake plant, so it died"), but he's not alone in this regard. Steven Wright also has a number of jokes in this area, his one about laying on the roof of a planetarium to watch the stars ("it was like we were in a universe sandwich") and others. It's just a rich source for natural juxtaposition. I went to Jerusalem's first comedy club tonight, it was their 1 year anniversary show. Excited audience. Fakers: Please don't steal my jokes. Also, please don't make up jokes, attribute them to me, and then steal them.
